Nancy Michael
Nancy Michael has been teaching theatre to young people for decades. She got a bachelors degree in Theatre Arts from Minnesota State University and was the first Director of Education at SteppingStone Theatre. She developed a nationally recognized performing arts program for The Boys and Girls Clubs of Minneapolis and taught Arts and Education workshops for the Boys and Girls Clubs of American.
Nancy worked as a development director for The Boys and Girls Clubs of Minneapolis and then YouthLink. From there she worked with AMAZEworks - first as a development director and then for 13 years as the Executive Director. While at AMAZE, Nancy presented workshops and training for several national organizations like HEAD START, National Association for the Education of Young Children, National Black Child Development Institute, etc focusing on educational equity and creating the conditions for belonging for staff and students. While at AMAZEworks, Nancy co-wrote three different curricula and was a founding member of The Racial Equity Minnesota Network.
Throughout her work in non-profit management, she continued to do theatre residency work and direct young people in plays. For over 10 years, she was the director of the All Children's Theatre Program at the Saint Paul Jewish Community Center.
Nancy started at Highland Park Senior High in 2018 as a community expert and loved it so much that she went back to school to get her K-12 Theatre teaching license and a masters in Curriculum and Instruction.
Two of her three children graduated from HPSH (Nick 2017 and Sidra 2019) and her husband (Stephen) works with the HPSH theatre department, designing sets and teaching students technical theatre skills.
