Staff Profile
Ursula Becker
I have been a proud member of the Highland Park Senior High School teaching staff since 2013 and I am thrilled to be back! Students in both my 9th and 11th grade sections will study a variety of classic and modern literature, they will learn how to evaluate and critique media sources, and they will learn how to better express themselves through creative and analytical writing. Students in my Broadcast News class will learn about creating compelling stories, developing recurring news segments, producing and editing a weekly broadcast, and they'll do all this with limited intervention from me (by the end of the quarter). I love seeing the creativity my students bring to class each year and I'm sure this year will be no different.
More than anything, what I hope to accomplish this year is for students to find their own voices, to form and defend their own opinions on complex topics, and to learn to love literature.
In addition to my regular teaching duties, I supervise Student Council with Sra. Karen Nelson and coordinate Senior Prom in the spring. If you have any questions about how to get involved in these or any other clubs, come see me!
I was born and raised in Minneapolis, received my B.A. from the University of Minnesota, and my Master's from St. Catherine University. If I had to have another job, I would be an architect (like every character on every sitcom ever).
