Scot's Spot School Store Now Open!

Students try coffee samples at school cafe

After years of hard work and collaboration from staff, students, partners and funders, Highland Park Senior's new school store officially opened on Tuesday, Oct. 1. The special occasion was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by staff from Highland, administrators from Saint Paul Public Schools, and partners including Greater Twin Cities United Way, John and Annette Whaley, McGough Construction, Blaze Credit Union, Securian Financial and Yellowbird Coffee Bar.

Highland's work-based learning teacher Kris Somerville and special education teacher Abby Boruff worked closely with the students to create a business plan, assign roles for the store's operations, design the branding and communications strategy, and staff the store. Customers were treated to free samples of coffee and tea at the opening celebration. Scot's Spot will be open daily before and after school.
