Theatre Arts
Highland Park Theatre Arts
Our program is open to ANY student interested in theatre. Whether on stage or behind the scenes, students get a rich, professional experience. For each of our productions we have at least one weekend of performances held Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings with a Saturday matinee as well. Rehearsals are generally after school Monday through Friday with some evening rehearsals when needed.
Students involved in technical theatre have the opportunity to learn about lighting, costumes, props, sets, make-up, stage management, choreography and directing. From concepting to production, students have hands-on participation.
Our booster club - Highland Theatre Friends and Family - HTFF recruits from our community of students, their families and friends to help build sets, sew costumes and run the front of house for each performance. Contact Nancy Michael if interested - nancy.michael@spps.org

Fall Shows
HPSH's Theatre Department invites you to our second fall 2024 production - The School For Scandal, by Richard Brinsley Sheridan.
This comedy of manners revolves around gossip, scandal and deception in wealthy London social circles in the 18th century. Lady Sneerwell and Joseph Surface use Mr. Snake and their party of gossips to spread rumors that they hope will alienate Joseph’s brother Charles from Sir Peter and Lady Teazle and their ward, Maria, who loves Charles. Joseph hopes to win Maria (or her fortune) and Lady Sneerwell has her heart set on winning Charles for herself. When Charles and Joseph’s uncle and benefactor, Sir Oliver Surface, returns unexpectedly from his decades of travels, each faces a test of their character. With the help of Rowley (their father’s friend) and Mose, a money lender, each brother meets their uncle in disguise. In the meantime, Joseph tries to convince Lady Teazle (newly married and elevated in class) to name him as her secret lover, something ”every woman of fashion” must have. Who will Sir Oliver name as his heir? Who will win Maria’s heart? Will Sir Peter and Lady Teazle find happiness together?
