WELCOME to the Department of Visual Arts at Highland Park Senior High School!
Highland Park has a strong history of student participation in the visual arts! Visual Arts courses allow students to develop a wide range of thinking skills and studio habits of mind including; visual awareness, brainstorming, practice, persistence, reflection, refinement, and artistic interpretation.
CREATIVE & ENGAGING: Highland's Visual Art Department focuses on engaging all students in creative development. The visual arts provide space for all students to reflect, heal, question, explore, and express themselves.
STUDENT CENTERED: Each student has a valuable voice to share through art. Students develop growing technical confidence rooted in how the art media can be understood and applied, then creating their own works.
- Most Visual Art courses are semester-long; meaning that they run for half a year and earn two credits, one credit for each quarter of the year.
- All art courses include demonstrations and hands-on studio work.
- With IB MYP (Middle Years Program) and IB DP (Diploma Program), Mrs. Linn and Dr. Schultz will encourage and enable students to investigate, plan, create, and evaluate artwork. Research, reflection, and critiques grow a student's skills. Through art, students can better understand themselves and grow their knowledge of local and global community connections as well.
- 11th/12th Grade: Visual Art & Design IB/DP is a two- year course
