Degrees and Certifications:
This is an exciting year for Como Park Elementary. This year marks the 100th anniversary of the completion of our school being built. I am honored to be the principal at Como. I have been principal at Como for the past ten years and am honored to be a part of this historic year of our school building. We will be integrating this great distinction of 100 years of education in our building throughout our learning journey this school year.
We hope that you are as excited as we are about the marking of 100 years of learning at Como Park Elementary. We have had a great first month of school! Students and staff alike have gotten back into the swing of things, practicing the rituals and routines and relearning the rhythms that make up our school days and year.
We had an opportunity to meet and greet many of you at our Open House Night back in August. We also had an opportunity to meet many of you at our Family Academic Night (FAN) on October 13th. We had a very successful FAN with may students engaging in academic activities, dinner, flu shots, and the book give-away. Hopefully you had an opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher or teachers at the Open House or FAN to connect, as well as continue to strengthen and work collaboratively as partners in supporting your child and our school community.
I am excited to share that the staff at Como are engaged in studying “The Leader in Me,” focused on the seven habits of highly effective leaders, in an effort to support our work in developing leaders in each of your children and students.
Fall parent/teacher conferences will take place at Como Park Elementary on November 17th, 18th, and 21st . Conferences offer you the unique opportunity to sit down with your child’s teacher(s) and have a conversation about how they are developing as a student and a member of a community. This is a time where both parents and teachers can get to know one another as more than a name on a piece of paper or a voice on the phone. This meeting allows both of you to strengthen a partnership in supporting your child’s success in school.
Research supports the fact that your children do better in school when parents are involved in their academic lives. By attending conferences, you demonstrate your interest and investment in your child’s learning and you can offer the teacher important insights into your child. This partnership strengthens the bond between home and school.
Thank you for all that you do daily to support your child’s learning. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas as to how we can make Como a more dynamic place to learn, please let me know.
