IB News Greetings and welcome back! We are never quite ready to return of course, but hopefully you have had a productive and/or restful summer. We got the results from another great round of IB exams in July, so I can continue to assure you that if you take the classes and apply yourself, you will be clearly well prepared for the exams, papers, etc. Some statistics: Our diploma success rate is 89% The exam scale is 1 – 7 , and we had a generous showing of 5s, 6s, and 7s amongst our students. 181 students took 397 exams last May, which will translate into credits, advanced fresh man status, scholarships, or exemption from required courses for the candidates. Of course, the exams are not the heart of the program – the classes are. Over the summer 8 more teachers have been trained at North American IB workshops, while others have been studying, writing curriculum, traveling to Korea, China, Japan, Spain, Brazil, New York, Philadelphia, and generally gearing up for the new year. All the IB classes offered are taught by teachers who have received particular training and demonstrate a keen interest in teaching the content. As of this fall, 58% of the HPSH staff has been IB trained. Registration for exams, classes, CAS details, Extended Essay and Honors Speech information will be disseminated in the advisories this year, in addition to SAT/ACT test preps, work on college application essays, visits from college admissions people, and other assorted activities. Looking forward to a great year, Charlotte Landreau, IB Coordinator
